MEMBERS OF THE

SORORITY

It's important to recognize and serve those closest to us. We not only work alongside our sisters but for them, as we forge relationships and catalyze change.

With a commitment to service, the sisters of Omega Phi Alpha are always looking for ways to help those who are in need. We love to volunteer as a sisterhood, but we also volunteer individually around campus and off campus. Here’s a look at some of our past and planned service activities.

In 2021 our chapter started working with the Trevor Project and has since made it our permanent philanthropy project. We have raised hundreds of dollars for this organization through paint your own flowerpots and stemless wine glasses, and virtual bingo boards.

The Trevor Project is a nonprofit organization that is focused on suicide prevention efforts amongst the young LGBTQ+ community. Our chapter is open and accepting of every individual and we care deeply about making sure our chapter feels loved and supported. Each semester we have a service event dedicated to the Trevor Project.

We have also worked with Project Linus, who are a nonprofit that provides blankets to those in need. We are proud to say our sisters have completed over 60 service hours for this organization and donated around 10 blankets to those in need.

Our president's project was Protecting Human Rights and in Fall of 2022 we held an event with Theta Chi called Dogs for a Cause where we raised over $800 for the Human Rights Campaign. The Human Rights Campaign is the largest LGBTQ+ advocacy group in the Unites States.

Our president's project for 2023-2024 is Helping Hands, so our sisters have hands on activities of service and we are very involved with protecting the environment.

Omega Phi Alpha realizes the importance of blood donations - With just one donation, three lives can be saved! We host many blood drives throughout the year to support the American Red Cross and help save lives!

Our sisters love to uplift and support each other through service projects for each other. Every semester we send each other uplifting messages before finals and in the past have delivered food to girls during stressful weeks. We also support each other by being mindful of each other's mental health which is our permanent project. In fall of 2022 we had a guest speaker come in and teach us how to be more mindful and how take care of our mental health.

Spring of 2022, our Beta Gamma member class, held a fundraiser in the HUB to raise money for Ukraine totaling over $400.

Spring of 2023, our Beta Zeta member class, held a very successful fundraiser selling flowers to raise money to save the bees.

Some of our other service events include making friendship bracelets for Kits to Heart, tab collection for the Ronald McDonald House , care packages for soldiers, Cards for Kidz, and writing encouraging notes to those who were stuck in isolation during 2020 and 2021 due to COVID.

This semester we are looking forward to participating in food drives, building kits for Days for Girls, Sarris Candies sale benefiting the Human Rights Campaign, writing letters to fellow OPHIA chapters, and making bachelorette brackets to raise money for the Trevor Project.
